You love photography, have good technical knowledge of how your camera works, and are familiar with basic composition rules. If you think that this is enough to take unforgettable shots of your stay in Venice, well… you may want to think again!
Venice is one of the most photographed cities in the world. It has been photographed by great artists and by millions of very normal people (like me), it has no secret corner nor unregistered landmark.
What awaits you is a new and unique story to compose. So, seize the opportunity to explore the city through new eyes and bring home not only some great shots, but also a new awareness and sensitivity, a new way to look at the world that you will be able to adopt in any place you will find yourself.
Rediscover how to really listen to a place and its people.
Define your own style and share your message with the world.
During this Venice Photography Workshop called ‘Looking at the Past, Shooting the Present’, we will look back at the work of famous photographers, analyze it and apply to our practice some of their principles. We are not going to recreate their photos, (which would make no sense as the city has changed so much), what we will do is add or incorporate to our approach their method and perspective, translating it into our own language and with our own tools. The main photographers we will focus on more widely, are Gianni Berengo Gardin and Fulvio Roiter, due to the fact that they lived in Venice and contributed to the city’s life for many many years, shared similar experiences and had both been members of the photo club La Gondola (still active today), and also because they have two rather different ways of seeing and communicating Venice.
A unique Venice photography workshop, an experience that will force you to leave your comfort zone and improve your overall photography skills, going beyond mere technique and using your eyes, heart and hands.
Photographers and artists we will cover:
Mariano Fortuny
Henri cartier-Bresson
Willy Ronis
Gianni Berengo Gardin*
* Our focus will be on Berengo Gardin, but I wanted to include some photos of Venice of the two French photographers as they were friends and a reference point for him.
Fulvio Roiter

A workshop that is a good mix of theory and practice.

FAQ
1) Do I need special equipment?
No. A DSL camera with a good lens would be ideal, but -considering that we will be focusing on practicing new ways to see- you can use your phone or -for the more romantic- your analog camera..
2) Is the tour private?
Yes, the only people on the tour will be you and your friends/family.A maximum of 3 people is included in the price. For every extra person I charge 50 euros.
Please consider that 4 is the maximum number of participants I would recommend.
3) Must the workshop be done at a specific hour?
No, we will arrange place and time based on your personal interests and my recommendations.
